Abaya Pattern Drafting Basics

A 16-hour course in drafting a basic abaya pattern and adapting it into several styles, then sewing 2–3 designs with finishing and creative touches.

Course objectives

Learn to draft a basic pattern and adapt it into several styles
Master sewing 2–3 abaya designs in different styles
Finish garments and add creative touches (satin ribbon, simple embroidery and accessories)

Getting to know sewing tools and suitable fabric types
Taking correct measurements, drafting a simple pattern and cutting the fabric from it
Sewing a simple abaya (classic straight cut) and practicing on the sewing machine
Finishing (sleeves and side slits)
Drafting a pattern for an open-front or wide-sleeved abaya, then cutting and sewing part of the design
Adding decorative touches and exploring different designs (circle/flared, cape and open-front)
A final hands-on project on one of the designs, a full review and a showcase of trainees' work
