Fashion Design & Sewing: Professional Level
A 3-month (48-hour) course in drafting and developing basic patterns, creating new designs from them, and cutting and sewing skirts, blouses, pants and abayas.
Course objectives
- Master drafting and developing basic patterns
- Create new designs from a basic pattern
- Master cutting and sewing skills
- Make practical garments: a skirt, a blouse, pants and an abaya
What you'll learn
Part 1: Fundamentals and basic patterns
- Sewing and drafting tools
- Taking correct measurements
- Drafting the basic skirt pattern and developing it (vertical and horizontal cuts, draping)
Part 2: Pattern development and manipulation
- The basic blouse pattern, bust dart manipulation and style lines
- The basic pants pattern
- Hands-on practice: cutting and sewing the skirt and blouse
Part 3: Practical applications and abayas
- Developing the pants pattern into different styles (classic, wide-leg and skinny)
- Abaya patterns in various styles (open-front, closed-front, with and without shoulder seams, and draped)
- Graduation project: drafting, cutting and making a design of your choice
Learning outcomes
- Take accurate measurements
- Draft a basic pattern and develop it for the required design
- Cut fabric professionally
- Sew basic garments (skirt, blouse, pants and abaya)
