Professional Fashion Design Diploma
A 6-month (144-hour) training diploma in fashion design and sewing, from taking measurements and drafting patterns to making skirts, dresses, abayas and a formal jacket, ending with a graduation project ready to show or sell.
Diploma objectives
- Take body measurements correctly
- Learn fabric types and their properties, and which fabrics suit each design and different body shapes
- Master drafting and making basic and advanced patterns
- Make skirts of various types: straight, circle (flared), with vertical or horizontal cuts, pleated and draped
- Draft and sew pants, blouses, shirts, abayas and all types of dresses
- Master bust dart manipulation on the blouse to create a range of designs
- Draft and make a princess-line dress to a professional standard
- Master designing and making a variety of sleeves and collars
- Make a formal jacket and a shawl collar with inner lining
- Become skilled at pattern alteration, draping techniques and shaping on the dress form
- Master final finishing and inner lining to produce high-quality pieces
- Complete a full graduation project over two weeks, ready to show, market or sell
